WILL LOCAL TORIES HAVE THE COURAGE TO JOIN UKIP? I DOUBT IT.
The recent speech by Tory leader David Cameron highlighting the problems of mass and uncontrolled immigration, only further serves to highlight the hypocrisy of the Conservative party today. On a local level, it is well known why I switched my allegiance to UKIP from the Tories back in May 2007. It was precisely that I had called for an end to uncontrolled mass immigration and was dismayed by the Tory stance on grammar schools.
At the time Cllr Paul Scully, the leader of the Tory group branded me “inflammatory” for my remarks. Now the chickens have come home to roost. Whilst spending the summer flailing around for credible policies, the Tories, both nationally and locally have cottoned on to the fact that the general public are sick and fed up with our country and our borough having to face uncontrolled immigration. So what do they do? Cameron makes a pronouncement to gain the populist vote, having spent his time in parliament voting to remain in Europe, thereby exacerbating the problem. What do the local Tories do? They keep their heads well and truly down until their vainglorious leader tells them it’s safe to put their heads above the parapet.
And the outcome? Logically they should all join us in UKIP, for we are the only party that have had the courage to tell the truth regarding immigration, and the only party that has a policy on it. We propose a 5-year total freeze on immigration to give our country and our borough time to sort out the problems it has caused. After the 5-years we propose a vigorous system of control so that anybody coming here (aside from genuine asylum seekers) is vetted as to their worthiness and whether we require their skills or not.
Oh, and a public apology would go down nicely as well Cllr Scully.
A STATEMENT FROM BELMONT UKIP COUNCILLOR DAVID PICKLES
Welcome to the UKIP website for the London Borough of Sutton. It is my privilege to become a member of UKIP after being a Conservative councillor for Belmont for the past 5 years.
I switched to UKIP as I feel that the Conservatives, both locally and nationally, do not truly represent the feelings of local residents. UKIP believe in small government and councils, the Tories do not. UKIP believe in lower taxes, the Tories do not. They have said nothing about the scandal that 42p of every £1 created goes on public spending. More money is being spent now by national government than every before, yet public services are failing. All the Conservatives can do is say that they will “share the proceeds of future growth being public spending and tax cuts”. Unless a party gets to grips with public spending there will be nothing left for tax cuts, a situation that the Conservatives conveniently ignore. UKIP are the only party to call for a structured cap to relieve our current problems on immigration, the Tories will not even talk about it. UKIP are now the only party nationally to want to protect and expand our grammar schools. The Tories have withdrawn their support for any more and will only say that the current ones can stay. Instead of working hard to get the message across that grammar schools offer children from less well-off backgrounds the helping hand they need, they choose to portray them as “schools of privilege”. In that way they are denying your children the chance of a better state education.
There are a lot of structural problems to be resolved within the borough of Sutton. The ruling Lib-Dems are content to pretend to residents that they have the solutions to these problems. Unfortunately they are the prime cause. Housing is a major issue. Many of our residents in local authority housing are living in sub-standard conditions, and yet the Lib-Dems continually deny this. The local Tories have never expressed an opinion either way. Money (your money paid through council tax) is being wasted in Sutton in a way never before seen. UKIP believe in tight, small council control, spending your money in the most efficient way. Lawrence Webb London Regional Organiser (right) welcomes Cllr David Pickles (Belmont Ward ) to UKIP
All in all, there is a lot of work to do. Our job as a party is to be more efficient in the way we get our message across. Believe me, UKIP now offer the only sensible hope and the way forward. Many people have said to me since I crossed the floor that UKIP are a “one-trick pony”, because we believe that leaving the EU is basic to our future fundamental plans. They are correct. Not in the “one-trick pony” remark, but because the EU affects all of our everyday lives, both locally and nationally. What impacts upon the country impacts upon Sutton, and it is our job to make all our lives better by ridding this borough and the country of the sort of people that want to run our lives. Because we believe in the freedom of the individual and less interference from central and local government, I am proud to represent UKIP.
